100% wool long sleeve

We believe that wool, a natural material, is an excellent choice for outdoor wear, so we decided to expand the possibilities of wool products at STATIC when we visited Bishu, Aichi, where the wool fabric is produced.

There, we encountered wool products with an unprecedentedly gentle and fluffy touch. I immediately tried it on and found it to be extremely comfortable. To be honest, there was so much difference from the conventional wool products that I doubted whether they were really wool or not. This was actually made of wool fabric that had not been shrink-proofed. I was impressed by how gentle the original wool fiber was against my skin.

However, the fact that the fabric is not shrink-proof means that it shrinks every time it is washed, making it difficult to wear casually as daily wear.

What is shrink-proofing?

Shrink-proofing is an indispensable process for wool wear.
While the "chlorine resin treatment," which is widely used, is superior in terms of cost, I felt uncomfortable when I learned that the shrink-proofing process emits chlorinated organic compounds, which are said to have a negative impact on the environment, and that the fiber is covered with resin.

Chlorine resin treatment removes scales on the surface of wool fibers that have water repellency and humidity control functions. In other words, by shrink-proofing, it leads to a reduction in the functionality of the wool fiber. Furthermore, by covering the fiber with nylon or other resins, will this reduce the functionality of the wool? The question of biodegradability also arises. We also heard that the resin causes the fabric to become stiffer with each use.

Is there any shrink-proofing that leaves the scales intact? Is there any shrink-proofing that does not use resin?

Environmentally friendly shrink-proofing

In the chlorine-free resin shrink-proofing process, scales are not removed, but hydrophobic scales are modified to hydrophilic and hybrid collagen is adhered to prevent scales from entangling with each other = shrinkage. Also, no resin is used.

The fabric in contact with the skin is only wool fibers, not resin. In addition, by leaving the scales that control wool's adjustability, we were able to create a wool product that utilizes the original function of the wool fiber as it is. It can be said that this is an eco-friendly shrink-proof product that utilizes the wool fiber as much as possible.
We will never forget the words of the developer of the shrink-proofing plant, who told us, "Since we do not use chlorine, it is safe for the health of our employees.
